Aftercare

Just got a new tattoo and don't know how to look after it? Here is your guide to looking after your new tattoo. This guide is for tattoo aftercare only, if you're looking for the piercing aftercare click the button below

The First Day

Leave the clingfilm on for one hour to protect your new tattoo in the first hour.
Wash your hands before removing the clingfilm.
Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Do not scrub.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.
Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment (such as palmer cocoa butter or any other tattoo balm).
Do not reapply clingfilm its best to let your tattoo breathe

Healing Process

Wash the tattoo gently twice a day with mild soap and water.
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer such as palmers cocoa butter or tattoo ointment to prevent dryness.
Use Palmer's Cocoa Butter to keep the skin hydrated and promote healing.
Do not scratch, pick, or peel scabs.
Avoid tight clothing that rubs against the tattoo.
Keep it out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds.
Do not submerge in water (no swimming, hot tubs, or baths), you can clean the area with lukewarm water but ensure it does not stay wet for any period of time.
Avoid excessive sweating and activities that may introduce bacteria.

It is normal for a tattoo to flake or scab

Special Attention

While some flakiness and some light scabbing is completely normal if the scab looks wet or thick please make sure to get into contact with your artist

some redness, bruising and swelling is normal, make sure to keep an eye on it as if it worsens it could be a sign of an infection 


Signs of Infection
Contact a doctor if you notice:
Excessive redness, swelling, or warmth.
Pus or bad-smelling discharge.
Persistent pain or fever.
